Terns breed on this island nature reserve during the summer whilst in autumn and winter it is a great site to see waders. During the bird breeding season (1 April - 15 August), access is restricted to designated paths and Slitch Ridge is closed. The full walk is 4.6km/3 miles.

Cumbria Wildlife Trust's Brown Robin Nature Reserve
A magnificent display of bluebells, wood anemone, wild garlic and primroses carpet the woodland in spring. grasslands have been fertiliser-free for many years which encourages wildflowers. There is a circular path around the reserve (2km/ 1.2 miles), waymarked with white-topped posts.

Leighton Hall has a public footpath running from the RSPB to Summer House Hill, that walkers and dogs are welcome to use. In May-Sept (1:30-4pm) there's an admission charge to access the hall & gardens. After 4pm, once the birds have flown access to Leighton’s garden & tea room is free.
